Where to locate Amazon FBA Reports

I posted the other day about where to download the Amazon year-end inventory.  Here is the link if you missed it:  http://www.basicesalesbookkeepingspreadsheet.com/do-you-know-your-ending-inventory-numbers/.   If you Merchant Fill, you should have an inventory list of stock you have on-hand and add to the FBA list you downloaded.

Inventory Adjustments:  You or your tax professional will also want to know if there were any adjustments to inventory like damaged and/or destroyed items.

The report is here:  Reports – Fulfillment-Inventory-Inventory Adjustments – Download Tab – Exact Dates 12.31 – 12.31.

These items would not be in your ending inventory report and they would not show in your sales reports.  This report serves as proof of why the items were deducted from inventory in the event of an audit and as a reminder to deduct them from your inventory tracking sheets.

Sales:  Most likely you use some sort of bookkeeping system like my spreadsheet (My eSales Tracker) or GoDaddy Bookkeeping to keep up with your sales, etc,  Whether you do or don’t, you will want to download your sales for the year as a back-up and to cross-check accuracy of the system you use.

The report is here:  Reports – Payments – Date Range Tab – Transaction – Custom 1/1/2014 – 12/31/2014 – Generate or you could do a custom date range on the Transaction View Tab and copy/paste that data into a spreadsheet if you have less than 600 transactions or do more than one date range.  I like this one because it’s easier to view the info without having to modify the reports.

Sales Tax:  Reports – Tax Document Library – Generate Report – Custom 1/1/2014 – 12/31/2014 – Generate

Amazon has many reports to review almost all aspects of your business.  Block off time on a regular basis to look over these and find ways to increase your sales and profits.

Have a very prosperous new year in 2015!

Can you believe it’s almost the end of yet another year and yes, time to think about those dreaded taxes.  There are a few reports and numbers that you will definitely need to run and save for tax filing.  And that, my friends, is your ending inventory for Amazon FBA and any on-site inventory you may have.  Keep in mind, your ending inventory also becomes your beginning inventory, generally speaking.

On Amazon, there are a couple of ways to run these reports.

  1.  No later than early AM January 1st, Amazon – Reports – Fulfillment – Inventory (left-side) – AZ Fulfilled Inventory.  Click Download.   This is a very close to real time report.
  2. You can download this one anytime after 12/31/14 as the data is 24 hours old.  Amazon – Reports – Fulfillment – Inventory (left-side) – Daily Inventory History.  Click Download Tab – Choose Exact Dates – 12/31/2014 (enter for From and To)

Both reports are downloaded in Notepad.  Click Open – Select All – Copy and then paste into a spreadsheet.

Keyboard shortcuts would be:

  1. Select All: Ctrl A for PC or Command A for Mac
  2. Copy: Ctrl C for PC or Command C for Mac
  3. Copy: Ctrl V for PC or Command V for Mac

Personally,   I like #2 because it also gives me the product name, only the items with inventory, and which warehouse it is located.

Report 1

Report 2

Now, save the document to a folder you can easily locate and give it a name like 2014 Year-End Inventory.  I have a folder titled 2014 Sales & Expenses where I put everything related to this year I would need for tax purposes.  You also want to open this and do a “save as” and create one for 2015 Beginning Inventory and put into a 2015 folder.

If you keep inventory on hand for merchant filled sales or eBay then you’ll need to do a physical inventory if you do not keep track of these items in a spreadsheet or some other fashion.

When you do your taxes, the Schedule C in Part III asks for the beginning inventory, purchases made to add to inventory during the year and the ending inventory.  This means for those items remaining in FBA inventory and/or on-hand there needs to be a cost for those that you would add to the spreadsheet you download.  If you already maintain a spreadsheet with inventory then you should be good to go and just need to scan it and make sure quantity numbers are the same.

Next blog post, I’ll give you the skinny on some other reports your CPA or tax professional or you the DIY’er will need before April 15th.

Once again, we hear of  popular sites being hacked and our info potentially accessed.

Here’s a link to an article from eBay about what happened and their urging all us sellers to change our passwords.

I was right in the middle of packing another batch of last-minute items to send to Amazon FBA and I reached for the tape and darn it . . . that was the last bit on the roll and not another roll in sight.  You know what that means.  Another trip to the store.

Checked all my coupons and decided to use my member rewards at Staples to pay for it.  While I was there I remembered that it was almost end of the year and time to stock up on my office and warehouse staple supplies.

So, as a reminder to all of you, we have just a couple of weeks left int his year.  Stock up on supplies you need for next year and reap the savings this year with not only some great sales going on but also as tax deductions on your Schedule C.

Tomorrow is Oct 15th tax deadline and for those of you who requested an extension to file your taxes make sure to get them either postmarked or e-filed.  Even with the government shutdown – taxes are to be filed on time.  Military and a few other groups may have longer according to IRS article.

Can you believe it’s 4th quarter already?  The months seem to go by faster and faster and 2014 will be here before we know it.

The last quarter is typically the busiest selling time of the entire year.  It is also a great time to review your business and catch-up on bookkeeping tasks to insure you don’t overlook any deductions that you can possibly squeeze in before year-end.

Here are (3) possible deductions:

  • Stock up on shipping, warehouse and office supplies for next year and use the deduction for this tax year.
  • Need a new computer?  Purchase before the end of the year and either expense the cost or depreciate over time.  Good idea for those of us using XP and need to make the dreaded upgrade.
  • Clear –out damaged inventory, donate that old stale stock that’s been around forever and reduce your inventory

Talk to your tax professional and ask about any potential deductions you may have overlooked to maximize your tax savings.
